    Ten currencies, one conversion

Pick any pair from EUR, USD, GBP, CHF, JPY, CAD, AUD, NOK, SEK and DKK. The converter uses mid-market exchange rates updated daily and shows you the result, the exact rate and whether the rate moved up or down compared to the previous trading day. Cross-rates (like GBP to JPY) are calculated automatically through USD as the base currency.

How to convert - step by step

    1. Amount - enter the number you want to convert. Can be as small as 0.01 or as large as 999 million.
    2. From currency - select the currency you currently hold (e.g. EUR if you have euros).
    3. To currency - select the currency you want to receive (e.g. USD if you need dollars).
    4. Read the results - you get the converted amount, the exchange rate and the day-over-day change indicator.

    What the results show

    Conversion result

The final amount in your target currency, rounded to 2 decimal places (whole numbers for JPY). This is the mid-market value before any bank or exchange fees.

    Exchange rate

Shows how much 1 unit of your source currency buys in the target currency. For cross-rates (e.g. GBP/JPY), the rate is derived through USD.

    Day-over-day change

A green arrow means the source currency strengthened (you get more). Red means it weakened (you get less). Grey means no change since yesterday.

    Mid-market vs retail

Banks and exchanges add a spread of 1-5% on top. The rate here is the interbank mid-point, not what you pay at the counter.

    Reference rates - major pairs

Approximate mid-market ranges for the most common conversions. Actual rates fluctuate daily.

    Pair Typical range Common use
EUR/USD 1.05 - 1.15 International trade, travel to Europe or the US
GBP/USD 1.22 - 1.35 UK travel, London property, British imports
USD/JPY 140 - 165 Japanese electronics, travel to Japan, carry trade
    USD/CHF 0.80 - 0.92 Swiss banking, safe-haven flows, Swiss salaries
    EUR/GBP 0.83 - 0.90 Cross-Channel business, Eurostar budgets
    AUD/USD 0.63 - 0.72 Australian exports, commodity pricing

    Three conversion scenarios

Travel budget: 2,000 EUR for a US trip

At a rate of 1.1435, 2,000 EUR converts to 2,287 USD. A bank might quote 1.1200 (their sell rate), giving you only 2,240 USD - a 47 USD difference. Multi-currency cards like Wise or Revolut typically charge 0.3-0.5% over mid-market, saving roughly 30-40 USD on this amount.

Freelance invoice: 5,000 GBP to EUR

At 1.1720 GBP/EUR, that is 5,860 EUR. If the pound strengthens by 1% next week, waiting would yield 5,919 EUR - an extra 59 EUR. If it weakens by 1%, you lose the same. For invoices with flexible payment dates, monitoring the rate for a few days can make a measurable difference.

Online shopping: 899 USD laptop from the US

At 0.8747 USD/EUR, the laptop costs 786 EUR at mid-market. Your credit card might charge a 2.5% foreign transaction fee, pushing the real cost to 806 EUR. Some cards waive this fee entirely - worth checking before a large purchase.

    Practical examples

500 EUR to USD at 1.1435: 571.75 USD
1,000 GBP to CHF at 1.0798: 1,079.80 CHF
50,000 JPY to EUR at 0.0054: 270.00 EUR
3,000 CAD to AUD at 1.0131: 3,039.30 AUD
10,000 NOK to SEK at 0.9847: 9,847.00 SEK

    FAQ - Frequently asked questions

    What is a mid-market rate?
The mid-market rate (also called the interbank rate) is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices on the global currency market. It is the fairest rate available, but you will rarely get it at a bank or exchange bureau - they add a spread (markup) of typically 1-5%. This converter shows the mid-market rate so you can judge how much your bank or exchange is charging you on top.
    How are cross-rates calculated?
When you convert between two non-USD currencies (e.g. GBP to JPY), the converter goes through USD as a bridge: first it converts GBP to USD, then USD to JPY. The result is a cross-rate. In practice, the global forex market quotes most major pairs directly, but for less liquid pairs, the cross-rate method produces an accurate result that matches market quotes within fractions of a percent.
Why does my bank give a worse rate?
Banks and exchange offices make money from the spread - the difference between their buy and sell rates. A typical bank spread on EUR/USD is 2-3%, while airport exchanges can charge 5-10%. Fintech services like Wise, Revolut or OFX typically charge 0.3-1% over mid-market, making them significantly cheaper for most conversions.
How often are the rates updated?
Rates are updated once per trading day. In reality, forex markets trade 24/5 (Monday to Friday) and rates change every second. The daily snapshot here is suitable for budgeting, invoicing and trip planning. For time-sensitive trading, use a live forex feed.
What does the day-over-day change mean?
The change indicator shows how the exchange rate moved compared to the previous trading day. A green up arrow means you get more of the target currency today than yesterday. A red down arrow means you get less. The percentage tells you how much the rate shifted. Typical daily moves for major pairs are 0.05-0.5%.
Can I convert between any two currencies in the list?
Yes. All 90 possible pairs among the 10 supported currencies work. Select any source and any target - the converter handles direct pairs (like EUR/USD) and cross-pairs (like NOK/AUD) equally. The only requirement is that the two currencies must be different.
