How to add time entries - step by step

Time 1 - type your first duration in HH:MM format (e.g. 8:30 for eight and a half hours). This is the only required field.
Time 2-5 - add up to four more durations. Leave unused fields empty. The calculator skips blank entries automatically.
Press "Add up" - the result appears instantly in three formats: HH:MM:SS, decimal hours (for payroll), and total minutes.
Check the breakdown - the detail panel lists every entry you typed so you can verify no value was mistyped.

The parser is forgiving. It recognises several formats and normalises them before adding:

FAQ

What is "decimal hours" and when do I need it?

Decimal hours express time as a single number instead of hours and minutes. 8 hours 30 minutes = 8.50 decimal hours. Payroll systems, project management tools, and spreadsheets often require this format because it makes multiplication straightforward: 8.50 h x $25/h = $212.50.

Can I enter more than 5 time entries?

The calculator has 5 input slots. If you have more entries, add the first five, note the subtotal, then add the remaining in a second pass. Or combine smaller entries first: if you have 0:15 and 0:20, type 0:35 in one slot.

What happens if I type minutes over 59?

The calculator rejects it and suggests a correction. For example, entering 8:75 shows an error: "Minutes cannot be >= 60. Did you mean 9:15?" You need to fix the entry before the sum can be calculated.

Does the result carry over into days?

No. The total stays in hours. If you add 10:00 + 10:00 + 10:00, you get 30:00:00 - not "1 day, 6 hours". This is intentional: work logs and timesheets track total hours, not calendar days.

How does auto-correction work?

The calculator recognises four non-standard formats: 8.5 becomes 8:30 (decimal), 8 becomes 8:00 (whole number), 830 becomes 8:30 (military), and full-width colons are treated as regular colons. When auto-correction triggers, a blue notice appears listing how many values were adjusted.

Can I subtract time with this tool?
