Child BMI at 35 kg - percentile and weight category
Is your child's weight normal for their age? Enter sex, age, weight and height - the calculator shows BMI, WHO/CDC percentile ranking and whether the result falls in the underweight, normal, overweight or obese range.
Your child weighs 35 kg - is that normal for their age? BMI for children works differently than for adults. There are no fixed thresholds like 25 or 30. Instead, the result is compared to WHO growth charts by age and gender. A child at the 85th percentile is overweight, above the 95th is obese. Enter age, height and gender, and the calculator will return the weight category and exact percentile.

One number, seventeen age brackets, four weight categories
A child's BMI of 18.0 can mean perfectly normal at age 14 or clinically obese at age 5. Unlike adult BMI, which uses fixed thresholds (25 = overweight, 30 = obese), child BMI must be read against age- and sex-specific percentile charts. This calculator uses simplified WHO/CDC reference data for ages 2-18, interpolates between integer ages, and returns the child's percentile rank plus a clear category: underweight, normal, overweight or obese.
How to use the Child BMI Calculator - step by step
- Sex - boys and girls have different BMI percentile curves at every age.
- Age (years) - full years, from 2 to 18. For children under 2, consult your pediatrician directly.
- Additional months - optional, for more precise interpolation between integer ages.
- Weight (kg) - weigh without shoes, in light clothing, ideally in the morning.
- Height (cm) - measure without shoes, standing straight against a wall.
- Read your results - BMI value, percentile rank, weight category (with color coding) and a reference table for the child's age group.

BMI classification for children by percentile
| BMI percentile | Category | What it means |

| 5th-85th | Normal | Healthy weight - child is developing properly |
| 85th-95th | Overweight | Weighs more than 85% of peers - monitor diet and physical activity |
| Above 95th | Obese | Weighs more than 95% of peers - urgent pediatrician and dietitian consultation recommended |
