The answer is 8 hours 30 minutes, or 8.50 in decimal - the format most payroll software expects. But getting there manually means dealing with midnight, two calendar days, and the question of whether 06:30 minus 22:00 is negative or just confusing.

Open the Day Counter, type 2026-12-31, and press Count. The result: 192 days remaining, broken down into 6 months and 10 days. The panel below shows the same gap in hours (4,622), minutes (277,363), and seconds.
The counter works in two directions. Set it to "Countdown" and it tells you how many days remain until a future event. Set it to "Count up" and it tells you how many days have passed since something happened. Name the event - "Summer vacation", "Project deadline", "Wedding anniversary" - and the label appears in the result.

The counter supports dates between 1900 and 2100. For past events, it works just as well: the Moon landing (July 20, 1969) was 20,790 days ago. That is 56 years, 11 months, and 1 day.
8:30 + 7:45 + 6:15 = ?
The answer is 22 hours and 30 minutes. Not hard to do on paper - until you have five entries, some in decimal format, and you need the total in three different units for a timesheet, a billing invoice, and a project report.
The Time Sum Calculator takes up to five time entries in HH:MM format and adds them. The result appears as:

The midnight problem
Back to the nurse. Start time: 22:00. End time: 06:30. Without any extra context, the calculator sees 06:30 minus 22:00 and gets a negative number. That is not a bug - the calculator does not know whether you mean 06:30 today or 06:30 tomorrow.
One checkbox fixes it. Tick "End time is the next day" and the calculator adds 24 hours internally. Result: 08:30:00 - 8 hours 30 minutes, 8.50 decimal, 510 total minutes.

The decimal hours format matters more than most people realise. Multiply 8.75 by $30/hour and you get $262.50. No conversion step. No rounding error. That is why payroll systems prefer it.
